My love for beads began 15 years ago. I started out just making some earrings to match a few outfits. I had been buying beads at local craft shops and strange enough, it was my husband that discovered a bead shop and came home telling me about it.
“A Bead Shop!” I remember both the surprise and excitement that revelation brought about. And then a whole new world opened up for me.
This particular shop had a decent supply of seed beads and the book Beaded amulet Purses by Nicolette Stessin had just come out. I bought some seed beads, the book and was immediately addicted. I remember not wanting to go to bed and put my project away that first night. The next morning, I couldn’t wait to bead again, even before coffee! I haven’t stopped since. I am self taught and continue to experiment to see what works and what doesn’t. It’s nice when what I’ve had in mind works out, but after this many years, I know that when it doesn’t I’ll continue to experiment and grow even more.
I started teaching about 10 years ago and still continue to teach, sometimes traveling across the country to classes. Teaching has been a very rewarding experience and I’ve enjoyed all the people I have met along the way.
When I started beading, I knew this was the medium I wanted to work in. I feel incredibly fortunate that I am earning my living doing what I love. Beading is very magical for me; it has always been and I am sure it always will be.
